  • Dr. Jumana Jarrah, B.Sc., D.C.

    Clinic Director

Edmonton’s vibrant downtown area just got bigger and brighter. After many years of academic training and hard work Dr. Jumana Jarrah’s early childhood dream has come to fruition. This fresh, young practitioner is passionate about her patient’s health and purposeful and effective in her approach.

Dr. Jarrah was born and raised in the beautiful river city of Edmonton. She has had a fascination with the human anatomy and marvelled at the body’s self-healing attributes since she was still in elementary school. In grade four, she announced, “I want to be a doctor when I grow up Mom.” And that is precisely what she did. In April 2001, she completed a Bachelor of Biological Science at the University of Alberta and in December 2004, a Doctor of Chiropractic at Palmer West Chiropractic College in San Jose, California – a renowned educational institution for chiropractic. Dr. Jarrah practiced chiropractic healthcare in California for a year and then came home to open her own clinic in Alberta. She is also certified in Active Release Techniques.

Various types of sports, physical training and exercise have always been prominent in Jumana’s life. As a teenager she was already over six feet in height – a skilled athlete and natural leader, she was solicited by numerous basketball coaches. Dr. Jarrah has participated both in school and community sports as a player, team captain and coach. Dr. Jarrah believes in giving back to the community. Her most memorable and meritorious role in sports involved coaching a boys basketball team. In a few months, she trained and inspired a team of teenage boys who had lost all of their games to a proud team with a silver-place finish in their division. She continues to be a role model for young athletes and her patients by ensuring her own healthy and active body. She has had her share of sports injuries and appreciates the healing process.

Dr. Jarrah’s passion and concern is best illustrated by her commitment and active volunteerism in the community. For example, she has participated in such community programs as Habitat for Humanity, It’s All About Kids and Chiropractic missions trips to Nicaragua.

New Balance Chiropractic Clinic offers the latest in chiropractic healthcare, nutritional counseling, therapeutic massage and rehabilitative therapy. As well, conducting educational seminars and workshops that promote a healthy, holistic lifestyle are part of Dr. Jarrah’s daily routine. Dr. Jarrah is proud to serve the Edmonton community and welcomes new patients to her clinic. Her philosophy is best stated by Thomas Edison who said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease…”

  • Dr. Cortini Schmidt, B.Sc.,D.C.

Dr. Cortni Schmidt was born in Calgary, Alberta and shortly thereafter moved to St. Albert, Alberta, a place she still calls home today. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences degree from the University of Alberta in 2009, Dr. Schmidt moved to Portland, Oregon to pursue her Chiropractic degree. In 2011 she successfully received her Doctor of Chiropractic and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Anatomy from The University of Western States.

As a young girl, Dr. Schmidt’s passion for sports, athletics, and her competitive nature led her to play any and all sports she could fit into her schedule. Competitive soccer has always held top priority and she has played in Alberta for many years, winning provincial championships along the way. In her free time today, Dr. Schmidt can still be found playing soccer, tennis, hiking, swimming, biking and playing with her golden retriever, Bear, at the local dog park.

Her interest in Chiropractic work was peaked after a high school sports injury led her to seek the care of a chiropractor. She always knew that health care was the field she belonged in, and after seeing the kind of care, rehabilitation, and recovery Chiropractors could provide, Dr. Schmidt knew that she too, wanted to have the ability to help others with the conservative treatment chiropractors could provide.

During her years in Portland, Dr. Schmidt gained practical clinical experience working in a variety of settings including an inner-city low income clinic, a women’s rehabilitation center and many on-site sporting events. While working at the integrated health clinic, Dr. Schmidt was able to help many patients incorporating a variety of different treatment approaches including: diversified chiropractic adjusting, activator, soft tissue therapy (Active Release Technique ®, Graston) and stretching. Her passion for leading a balanced lifestyle has helped her in counseling patients on lifestyle modifications, such as aerobic exercise, nutrition, and workplace safety.

It is Dr. Schmidt’s goal to provide exceptional individualized chiropractic care to patients, restoring proper physiological and biomechanical health for each patient focusing primarily on the neuromuscular skeletal system, while utilizing a collaborative healthcare approach and establishing a reputation in the community as a compassionate caregiver, positive role model, and knowledgeable educator.

  • Erica Felet

    Office Manager

Welcome! My name is Erica, and I am delighted to be a part of the close-knit team at New Balance Chiropractic Clinic. In recent years, I have discovered my interest in holistic medicine, and was thrilled to learn that there was a position available where I can continually accelerate my knowledge in natural health and self-healing. The appeal of this occupation, accompanied with my predisposition to aid those in need, has led me to this initial position as administration support.

I was born in Burnaby, British Columbia and raised in Kimberley, British Columbia; in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Splitting my time between Kimberley and Vancouver meant having access to beautiful landscapes, conducive to many outdoor activities such as hiking, horseback riding, camping and fishing – all of which I still enjoy today. Competitive dance was also a passion of mine for many years.

I have been in Edmonton since the year 2000, and have grown to appreciate this unique and art-focused city. When I’m not at the clinic, you can find me either partaking in a live music venue, enjoying one of the countless festivals, or simply curled up at home with some tea and a good book. I look forward to continue assisting those in the endeavor of achieving a well-balanced lifestyle!
